Midwest Sun
Downtown Minneapolis in November and December.
Since relocating to Minneapolis, I’ve been struck by the quality and intensity of the sunlight—and the way it cuts through the grid of high-rises downtown. Compared with other places I’ve photographed in (New York, Boston, and various Western European cities), the light here behaves differently. According to ChatGPT, it’s a mix of the drier air, flat Midwestern terrain, and unusually wide streets. That combination produces everything from long, dramatic shadows to a crisp, specular light I have not encountered elsewhere.
